Canceled out the certificate of debt:
Colossians 2:13-14
13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your
flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our
transgressions,
14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against
us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed
it to the cross.
There was a long list of things we
“owed” because of our sinful life. When Christ died on the cross, that whole
list was canceled out. When He was nailed to the tree, so was that list of
debts we owed God. It wasn’t because of something we did to deserve it either.
It was done almost two thousand years before we were born. It’s hard enough to
do something unpleasant for someone we know loves us. How hard would it be to
do the same thing for someone we’d never met? Yet Jesus did it for us. It no
longer stands between us and God. It was taken out of the way when Jesus was
nailed to the tree.
“I owed a debt I could not pay. He
paid a price He did not owe. I needed Someone to take my sins away.”
If you could hear God speak, I believe this is what He would
say:
"My
children, there were a lot of things crying against you before you came unto
96. When they nailed
Him to the tree, His death canceled out the certificate of debt that I owed.
